When it comes to spearfishing it is up to the individual diver to be a responsible and ethical hunter, by understanding your target species and being aware of the regulations you can help avoid unnecessary kills and potential trouble with fishing authorities.

The Beginners Spearfishing workshop is designed for the beginner looking to expand on their knowledge of local species as well as improving the hunting techniques for spearfishing in different underwater environments.

The course will cover:

  • learning the rules and regulations for spearfishing

  • size and bag limits for species

  • prohibited species

  • up to 30 local species of fish and invertebrates

  • hunting techniques

  • how to use burley/flashers

  • differences of hunting Reef/Sand/Pelagic species

  • spearfishing safety/ rescues

Course schedule:

  • 8:00am - classroom theory session at extreme spearfishing, Brookvale

  • 11:30am - equipment session

  • 1:00pm - spearfishing dive

  • 3:00pm - debriefing

what will you need:

  • a completed Medical and liability form

  • wetsuit appropriate for the season

  • mask, fins and weight belt

    *if you require any equipment get in contact and we will do our best to accomodate you

    if you need any of these get in contact for advice

  • The course is primarily about safety and positively identifying species. for this reason you wont need your own gun. we will have one on hand for you to use during the ocean session.

  • Our group will be a maximum of 4 people

  • The ocean can be unpredictable for this reason a course may be postponed or the ocean session location moved if the ocean conditions are unsuitable for diving
